What you can expect

For generations, Te Puia has welcomed manuhiri (visitors) from all over the world to explore the magic hidden within Te Whakarewarewa Thermal Valley. All of our experiences are now fully guided to enrichen your visit to our historical geothermal valley.

  • Discover Te Puia’s history and lineage with a guided tour – each guide adds a personal touch to inspire and help visitors truly connect with the Te Puia experience.
  • Explore a 60-hectare landscape of native bush, geysers, and mud pools, and feel the natural power of Pōhutu Geyser– the largest geyser in the Southern Hemisphere!
  • Get up close and personal with one of our national treasures in our brand-new Kiwi Conservation Centre.
  • Visit the New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute and view demonstrations of wood, stone, and bone carving as well as flax weaving.
  • Rotowhio Marae is a stunning example of a traditionally carved meeting house, with finely woven tukutuku panels and exquisitely carved features.
  • Browse a range of handcrafted taonga at Āhua Gallery created by our artists from the New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute.
